RESUMO

The subcortical maternal complex, which consists of maternal-effect genes, plays a crucial role in the development of oocytes and preimplantation embryo until the activation of the zygote genome. One such gene, known as peptidyl-arginine deiminase VI (Padi6), is involved in the oocyte maturation, fertilization and embryonic development. However, the precise function of Padi6 gene in buffalo is still unclear and requires further investigation. In this study, the sequence, mRNA and protein expression patterns of Padi6 gene were analyzed in oocytes, preimplantation embryos and somatic tissues of buffalo. The coding sequence of gene was successfully cloned and characterized. Real-time quantitative PCR results indicated an absence of Padi6 transcripts in somatic tissues. Notably, the expression levels of Padi6 in oocytes showed an increased from the germinal vesicle stage to metaphase II stage, followed by a rapid decrease during the morula and blastocyst stages. Immunofluorescence analysis confirmed these findings, revealing a noticeable decline in protein expression levels. Our research provides the initial comprehensive expression profile of Padi6 in buffalo oocytes and preimplantation embryos, serving as a solid foundation for further investigations into the functionality of maternal-effect genes in buffalo.

Objective: Accumulating evidence has indicated that neurodevelopmental defects may underlie the pathophysiology of bipolar disorder (BD). Insulin-like growth factors (IGFs) are a family of neurotrophic factors that are essential for the survival and development of neurons. The present study aims to investigate whether IGF-2 signaling is implicated in the pathophysiological processes of BD. Method: 50 healthy controls and 78 patients with BD, including 23 patients who diagnosed acute depressive episode and 55 patients who diagnosed acute manic episode, were recruited in this study. The 17-item Hamilton Depression Rating Scale (HAMD-17) and the Young Mania Rating Scale (YMRS) were used to assess the severity of the depressive and manic symptoms, respectively. The serum IGF-2 level was determined by an enzyme-linked immunosorbent assay (ELISA). The Kolmogorov-Smirnov and Mann-Whitney U tests were used for between-group comparisons and spearman analysis was used to analyze correlations. Results: Patients with BD had lower serum IGF-2 levels (66.08 ± 21.22 ng/ml) when compared to healthy controls (88.72 ± 31.55 ng/ml). BD patients were divided into manic episode and depressive episode subgroups. We found that serum IGF-2 levels were reduced in both the mania and depression subgroups (mania: 67.19 ± 21.52 ng/ml, depression: 63.43 ± 20.67 ng/ml; P < 0.001), while no significant difference was observed between two groups (P > 0.05). Spearman correlation analyses revealed that the levels of serum IGF-2 were negatively correlated with the YMRS scores in BD patients (r = -0.522, P < 0.001). Furthermore, IGF-2 was found to be an independent contributor to the severity of symptoms in patients with manic episodes (B = -0.610, t = -5.299, P < 0.001). Conclusion: Lower serum IGF-2 levels were found in BD patients and correlated with the severity of the manic symptoms in these patients during manic episodes. These results suggest that reduced IGF-2 levels might be involved in the pathophysiology of BD, and serum IGF-2 could be a peripheral biomarker for the evaluation of the severity of manic symptoms in BD patients.

As of 2023, it is estimated that 6.7 million individuals in the United States live with Alzheimer's disease (AD). Prior research indicates that AD disproportionality affects females; females have a greater incidence rate, perform worse on a variety of neuropsychological tasks, and have greater total brain atrophy. Recent research shows that hippocampal functional connectivity differs by sex and may be related to the observed sex differences in AD, and apolipoprotein E (ApoE) ε4 carriers have reduced hippocampal functional connectivity. The purpose of this study was to determine if the ApoE genotype plays a role in the observed sex differences in hippocampal functional connectivity in Alzheimer's disease. The resting state fMRI and T2 MRI of individuals with AD (n = 30, female = 15) and cognitively normal individuals (n = 30, female = 15) from the Alzheimer's Disease Neuroimaging Initiative (ADNI) were analyzed using the functional connectivity toolbox (CONN). Our results demonstrated intrahippocampal functional connectivity differed between those without an ε4 allele and those with at least one ε4 allele in each group. Additionally, intrahippocampal functional connectivity differed only by sex when Alzheimer's participants had at least one ε4 allele. These results improve our current understanding of the role of the interacting relationship between sex, ApoE genotype, and hippocampal function in AD. Understanding these biomarkers may aid in the development of sex-specific interventions for improved AD treatment.

Glioma is a systemic disease that can induce micro and macro alternations of whole brain. Isocitrate dehydrogenase and vascular endothelial growth factor are proven prognostic markers and antiangiogenic therapy targets in glioma. The aim of this study was to determine the ability of whole brain morphologic features and radiomics to predict isocitrate dehydrogenase status and vascular endothelial growth factor expression levels. This study recruited 80 glioma patients with isocitrate dehydrogenase wildtype and high vascular endothelial growth factor expression levels, and 102 patients with isocitrate dehydrogenase mutation and low vascular endothelial growth factor expression levels. Virtual brain grafting, combined with Freesurfer, was used to compute morphologic features including cortical thickness, LGI, and subcortical volume in glioma patient. Radiomics features were extracted from multiregional tumor. Pycaret was used to construct the machine learning pipeline. Among the radiomics models, the whole tumor model achieved the best performance (accuracy 0.80, Area Under the Curve 0.86), while, after incorporating whole brain morphologic features, the model had a superior predictive performance (accuracy 0.82, Area Under the Curve 0.88). The features contributed most in predicting model including the right caudate volume, left middle temporal cortical thickness, first-order statistics, shape, and gray-level cooccurrence matrix. Pycaret, based on morphologic features, combined with radiomics, yielded highest accuracy in predicting isocitrate dehydrogenase mutation and vascular endothelial growth factor levels, indicating that morphologic abnormalities induced by glioma were associated with tumor biology.

Objective: This article aims to identify genetic features associated with immune cell infiltration in cerebral ischemia-reperfusion injury (CIRI) development through bioinformatics, with the goal of discovering diagnostic biomarkers and potential therapeutic targets. Methods: We obtained two datasets from the Gene Expression Omnibus (GEO) database to identify immune-related differentially expressed genes (IRDEGs). These genes' functions were analyzed via Gene Ontology (GO) and the Kyoto Encyclopedia of Genes and Genomes (KEGG). Tools such as CIBERSORT and ssGSEA assessed immune cell infiltration. The Starbase and miRDB databases predicted miRNAs interacting with hub genes, and Cytoscape software mapped mRNA-miRNA interaction networks. The ENCORI database was employed to predict RNA binding proteins interacting with hub genes. Key genes were identified using a random forest algorithm and constructing a Support Vector Machine (SVM) model. LASSO regression analysis constructed a diagnostic model for hub genes to determine their diagnostic value, and PCR analysis validated their expression in cerebral ischemia-reperfusion. Results: We identified 10 IRDEGs (C1qa, Ccl4, Cd74, Cd8a, Cxcl10, Gmfg, Grp, Lgals3bp, Timp1, Vim). The random forest algorithm, and SVM model intersection revealed three key genes (Ccl4, Gmfg, C1qa) as diagnostic biomarkers for CIRI. LASSO regression analysis, further refined this to two key genes (Ccl4 and C1qa), With ROC curve, analysis confirming their diagnostic efficacy (C1qa AUC = 0.75, Ccl4 AUC = 0.939). PCR analysis corroborated these findings. Conclusions: Our study elucidates immune and metabolic response mechanisms in CIRI, identifying two immune-related genes as key biomarkers and potential therapeutic targets in response to cerebral ischemia-reperfusion injury.

To assess the pattern of multiple human papillomavirus infection to predict the type replacement postvaccination. A total of 7372 women aged 18-45y from a phase III trial of an Escherichia coli-produced HPV-16/18 vaccine were analyzed at enrollment visit before vaccination. Hierarchical multilevel logistic regression was used to evaluate HPV vaccine type and nonvaccine-type interactions with age as a covariate. Binary logistic regression was construed to compare multiple infections with single infections to explore the impact of multiple-type infections on the risk of cervical disease. Multiple HPV infections were observed in 25.2% of HPV-positive women and multiple infections were higher than expected by chance. Statistically significant negative associations were observed between HPV16 and 52, HPV18 and HPV51/52/58, HPV31 and HPV39/51/52/53/54/58, HPV33 and HPV52/58, HPV58 and HPV52, HPV6 and HPV 39/51/52/53/54/56/58. Multiple HPV infections increased the risk of CIN2+ and HSIL+, with the ORs of 2.27(95%CI: 1.41, 3.64) and 2.26 (95%CI: 1.29, 3.95) for multiple oncogenic HPV infection separately. However, no significant evidence for the type-type interactions on risk of CIN2+ or HSIL+. There is possibility of type replacement between several pairs of vaccine and nonvaccine HPV type. Multiple HPV infection increased the risk of cervical disease, but coinfection HPV types seem to follow independent disease processes. Continued post-vaccination surveillance for HPV 51/52/58 types and HPV 39/51 types separately was essential after the first and second generation of HPV vaccination implementation in China.

Transition metal chalcogenides (TMCs) are widely used in photocatalytic fields such as hydrogen evolution, nitrogen fixation, and pollutant degradation due to their suitable bandgaps, tunable electronic and optical properties, and strong reducing ability. The unique 2D malleability structure provides a pre-designed platform for customizable structures. The introduction of vacancy engineering makes up for the shortcomings of photocorrosion and limited light response and provides the greatest support for TMCs in terms of kinetics and thermodynamics in photocatalysis. This work reviews the effect of vacancy engineering on photocatalytic performance based on 2D semiconductor TMCs. The characteristics of vacancy introduction strategies are summarized, and the development of photocatalysis of vacancy engineering TMCs materials in energy conversion, degradation, and biological applications is reviewed. The contribution of vacancies in the optical range and charge transfer kinetics is also discussed from the perspective of structure manipulation. Vacancy engineering not only controls and optimizes the structure of the TMCs, but also improves the optical properties, charge transfer, and surface properties. The synergies between TMCs vacancy engineering and atomic doping, other vacancies, and heterojunction composite techniques are discussed in detail, followed by a summary of current trends and potential for expansion.

Investigations of one-dimensional segmented heteronanostructures (1D-SHs) have recently attracted much attention due to their potentials for applications resulting from their structure and synergistic effects between compositions and interfaces. Unfortunately, developing a simple, versatile and controlled synthetic method to fabricate 1D-SHs is still a challenge. Here we demonstrate a stress-induced axial ordering mechanism to describe the synthesis of 1D-SHs by a general under-stoichiometric reaction strategy. Using the continuum phase-field simulations, we elaborate a three-stage evolution process of the regular segment alternations. This strategy, accompanied by easy chemical post-transformations, enables to synthesize 25 1D-SHs, including 17 nanowire-nanowire and 8 nanowire-nanotube nanostructures with 13 elements (Ag, Te, Cu, Pt, Pb, Cd, Sb, Se, Bi, Rh, Ir, Ru, Zn) involved. This ordering evolution-driven synthesis will help to investigate the ordering reconstruction and potential applications of 1D-SHs.

Exposure to endocrine-disrupting chemicals (EDCs) in freshwater systems has garnered increasing attention. A comprehensive analysis of the migration patterns, bioaccumulation, and consumer health risks of EDCs along the Xiangjiang River due to fish consumption from the river ecosystem was provided. Twenty natural and synthetic target EDCs were detected and analyzed from the water, sediments, and fish samples collected along the Xiangjiang River. There were significant correlations between the EDC concentrations in fish and the sediments. This revealed that EDCs in sediments play a dominant role in the uptake of EDCs by fish. The bioaccumulation factor and biota-sediment accumulation factor were calculated, with the highest values observed for nonylphenol. Pearson's correlation analysis showed that bisphenol A is the most reliable biological indicator of EDC contamination in fish. Furthermore, based on the threshold of toxicological concerns and the health risk with dietary intake, crucian carp and catfish from the Xiangjiang River pose a certain risk for children and pregnant women compared to grass carp. The Monte Carlo simulation results indicated a certain risk of cumulative ∑EDC exposure for local residents due to fish consumption.

Exercise can induce brain plasticity. Functional near-infrared spectroscopy (fNIRS) is a functional neuroimaging technique that exploits cerebral hemodynamics and has been widely used in the field of sports psychology to reveal the neural mechanisms underlying the effects of exercise. However, most existing fNIRS studies are cross-sectional and do not include exercise interventions. In addition, attributed to differences in experimental designs, the causal relationship between exercise and brain functions remains elusive. Hence, this systematic review aimed to determine the effects of exercise interventions on alterations in brain functional activity in healthy individuals using fNIRS and to determine the applicability of fNIRS in the research design of the effects of various exercise interventions on brain function. Scopus, Web of Science, PubMed, CNKI, Wanfang, and Weipu databases were searched for studies published up to June 15, 2021. This study was performed in accordance with the PRISMA guidelines. Two investigators independently selected articles and extracted relevant information. Disagreements were resolved by discussion with another author. Quality was assessed using the Cochrane risk-of-bias method. Data were pooled using random-effects models. A total of 29 studies were included in the analysis. Our results indicated that exercise interventions alter oxygenated hemoglobin levels in the prefrontal cortex and motor cortex, which are associated with improvements in higher cognitive functions (e.g., inhibitory control and working memory). The frontal cortex and motor cortex may be key regions for exercise-induced promotion of brain health. Future research is warranted on fluctuations in cerebral blood flow during exercise to elucidate the neural mechanism underlying the effects of exercise. Moreover, given that fNIRS is insensitive to motion, this technique is ideally suited for research during exercise interventions. Important factors include the study design, fNIRS device parameters, and exercise protocol. The examination of cerebral blood flow during exercise intervention is a future research direction that has the potential to identify cortical hemodynamic changes and elucidate the relationship between exercise and cognition. Future studies can combine multiple study designs to measure blood flow prior to and after exercise and during exercise in a more in-depth and comprehensive manner.

BACKGROUND: The variants of nucleoporins are extremely rare in hereditary steroid-resistant nephrotic syndrome (SRNS). Most of the patients carrying such variants progress to end stage kidney disease (ESKD) in their childhood. More clinical and genetic data from these patients are needed to characterize their genotype-phenotype relationships and elucidate the role of nucleoporins in SRNS. METHODS: Four patients of SRNS carrying biallelic variants in the NUP93, NUP107 and NUP160 genes were presented. The clinical and molecular genetic characteristics of these patients were summarized, and relevant literature was reviewed. RESULTS: All four patients in this study were female and initially presented with SRNS. The median age at the onset of the disease was 5.08 years, ranging from 1 to 10.5 years. Among the four patients, three progressed to ESKD at a median age of 7 years, ranging from 1.5 to 10.5 years, while one patient reached stage 3 chronic kidney disease (CKD3). Kidney biopsies revealed focal segmental glomerulosclerosis in three patients. Biallelic variants were detected in NUP93 in one patient, NUP107 in two patients, as well as NUP160 in one patient respectively. Among these variants, five yielded single amino acid substitutions, one led to nonsense mutation causing premature termination of NUP107 translation, one caused a single nucleotide deletion resulting in frameshift and truncation of NUP107. Furthermore, one splicing donor mutation was observed in NUP160. None of these variants had been reported previously. CONCLUSION: This report indicates that biallelic variants in NUP93, NUP107 and NUP160 can cause severe early-onset SRNS, which rapidly progresses to ESKD. Moreover, these findings expand the spectrum of phenotypes and genotypes and highlight the importance of next-generation sequencing in elucidating the molecular basis of SRNS and allowing rational treatment for affected individuals.

Due to the comprehensive hepatitis B virus vaccination program in Taiwan since 1986, the development of antiviral therapy for chronic hepatitis B and chronic hepatitis C infection and covered by National health insurance. Besides, the increased prevalence of nonalcoholic fatty liver disease (NAFLD) and currently, approved therapy for NAFLD remain developing. The etiology of liver-related diseases such as cirrhosis and hepatocellular carcinoma required reinterpretation. This study aimed to analyze the incidence and outcome of hepatocellular carcinoma (HCC) due to viral (hepatitis B and hepatitis C) infection compared to that of nonviral etiology. We retrospectively analyzed patients with HCC from January 2011 to December 2020 from the cancer registry at our institution. Viral-related hepatitis was defined as hepatitis B surface antigen positivity or anti-hepatitis C virus (HCV) antibody positivity. A total of 2748 patients with HCC were enrolled, of which 2188 had viral-related HCC and 560 had nonviral-related HCC. In viral HCC group, the median age at diagnosis was significantly lower (65 years versus 71 years, p < 0.001), and the prevalence of early-stage HCC, including stage 0 and stage A Barcelona Clinic Liver Cancer, was significantly higher (52.9% versus 33.6%, p < 0.001). In nonviral HCC group, alcohol use was more common (39.9% versus 30.1%, p < 0.001), the prevalence of type 2 diabetes mellitus (T2DM) was higher (54.5% versus 35.1%, p < 0.001), and obesity was common (25.0% versus 20.5%, p = 0.026). The prevalence of nonviral HCC increased significantly from 19.2 to 19.3% and 23.0% in the last 10 years (p = 0.046). Overall survival was better in the viral HCC group (5.95 years versus 4.00 years, p < 0.001). In the early stage of HCC, overall survival was still better in the viral HCC group (p < 0.001). The prevalence of nonviral HCC has significantly increased in the last ten years. The overall survival was significantly lower in the nonviral HCC, perhaps because the rate of early HCC detection is lower in nonviral HCC and anti-viral therapy. To detect nonviral HCC early, we should evaluate liver fibrosis in high-risk groups (including people with obesity or T2DM with NAFLD/NASH and alcoholic liver disease) and regular follow-up for those with liver fibrosis, regardless of cirrhosis.

Background: Identifying the fundus objective biomarkers for the major depressive disorders (MDD) may help promote mental health. The aim of this study was to evaluate retinal neurovascular changes and further investigate their association with disease severity in MDD. Methods: This cross-sectional study conducted in the hospital enrolled patients with MDD and healthy controls.The retinal neurovascular parameters for all subjects, including vessel density (VD), thickness of ganglion cell complex (GCC) and retinal nerve fiber layer (RNFL), and optic nerve head (ONH) eg are automatically calculated by the software in optical coherence tomography angiography (OCTA). The severity of MDD including depressive symptoms, anxiety, cognition, and insomnia was assessed by Hamilton Depression Rating Scale (HAMD), Hamilton Anxiety Scale (HAMA), Montreal Cognitive Assessment (MoCA), and Insomnia Severity Index (ISI) respectively. Results: This study included 74 MDD patients (n=74 eyes) and 60 healthy controls (HCs) (n=60 eyes). MDD patients showed significantly decreased VD of superficial and deep capillary plexus, thickness of GCC and RNFL, and volume of ONH (all p<0.05) and increased vertical cup-to-disc ratio and global loss volume (GLV) (all p<0.05) compared to HCs. Positive associations were found between HAMD scores and cup area (r=0.30, p=0.035), cup volume (r=0.31, p=0.029), and disc area (r=0.33, p=0.020) as well as ISI scores and RNFL thickness (r=0.34, p=0.047). Conclusion: We found the retinal neurovascular impairment and its association with disease severity in MDD patients. OCTA showed promise as a potential complementary assessment tool for MDD.

BACKGROUND: The high incidence of early recurrence after liver resection for hepatocellular carcinoma (HCC) is the main obstacle in achieving good long-term survival outcomes. The aim of the present study is to develop a prognostic model in predicting the risk of very early (1-year) recurrence. MATERIAL AND METHODS: Consecutive patients who underwent liver resection for HCC with curative intent at multi-centers in China were enrolled in this study. The VERM-pre (the Preoperative Very Early Recurrence Model of HCC) with good performance was derived and validated by internal and external cohorts retrospectively and by another two-center cohort prospectively. RESULTS: 7401 patients were enrolled and divided randomly into 3 cohorts. Eight variables (tumor diameter, tumor number, macrovascular invasion, satellite nodule, alpha-fetoprotein, level of HBV-DNA, γ-GT and prothrombin time) were identified as independent risk factors for recurrence-free survival on uni- and multi-variate analyses. The VERM-pre model was developed which showed a high capacity of discrimination (C-index: 0.722; AUROC at 1 year: 0.722)) and was validated comprehensively by the internal, external and prospective cohorts, retrospectively. Calibration plots showed satisfactory fitting of probability of early HCC recurrence in the cohorts. Three risk strata were derived to have significantly different recurrence free survival rates (low-risk: 80.4%-85.4%; intermediate-risk: 59.7%-64.8%; high-risk: 32.6%-42.6%). In the prospective validation cohort, the swimming plot illustrated consistent outcomes with the beginning predictive score. CONCLUSION: The VERM-pre model accurately predicted the 1-year recurrence rates of HCC after liver resection with curative intent. The model was retrospectively and prospectively validated and then developed as the online tool.

Here, we innovatively designed and elaborately fabricated ordered hierarchical macroporous catalysts of Ce0.8Zr0.2O2 (OM CZO) integrated on a catalyzed diesel particulate filter (CDPF) using the self-assembly method. An oxygen-vacancy-enriched ordered macroporous Ce0.8Zr0.2O2 catalyst (VO-OM CZO) integrated CDPF was synthesized by subsequent NaBH4 reduction. The VO-OM CZO integrated CDPF exhibited a markedly enhanced soot oxidation activity compared to OM CZO and powder CZO coated CDPFs (T50: 430 vs 490 and 545 °C, respectively). The well-defined OM structure of the VO-OM CZO catalysts effectively improves the contact efficiency between soot and the catalysts. Meanwhile, oxygen vacancies trigger the formation of a large amount of highly reactive peroxide species (O22-) from molecular oxygen (O2) through electron abstraction from the three adjacent Ce3+ (3Ce3+ + Vö + O2 → 3Ce4+ + O22-), contributing to the efficient soot oxidation. This work demonstrates the fabrication of the ordered macroporous CZO integrated CDPF and reveals the importance of structure and surface engineering in soot oxidation, which sheds light on the design of highly efficient PM capture and removal devices.

Reducing fibrous aggregates of protein tau is a possible strategy for halting progression of Alzheimer's disease (AD). Previously we found that in vitro the D-peptide D-TLKIVWC disassembles tau fibrils from AD brains (AD-tau) into benign segments with no energy source present beyond ambient thermal agitation. This disassembly by a short peptide was unexpected, given that AD-tau is sufficiently stable to withstand disassembly in boiling SDS detergent. To consider D peptide-mediated disassembly as a potential therapeutic for AD, it is essential to understand the mechanism and energy source of the disassembly action. We find assembly of D-peptides into amyloid-like fibrils is essential for tau fibril disassembly. Cryo-EM and atomic force microscopy reveal that these D-peptide fibrils have a right-handed twist and embrace tau fibrils which have a left-handed twist. In binding to the AD-tau fibril, the oppositely twisted D-peptide fibril produces a strain, which is relieved by disassembly of both fibrils. This strain-relief mechanism appears to operate in other examples of amyloid fibril disassembly and provides a new direction for the development of first-in-class therapeutics for amyloid diseases.

Cardiovascular research has heavily relied on studies using patient samples and animal models. However, patient studies often miss the data from the crucial early stage of cardiovascular diseases, as obtaining primary tissues at this stage is impracticable. Transgenic animal models can offer some insights into disease mechanisms, although they usually do not fully recapitulate the phenotype of cardiovascular diseases and their progression. In recent years, a promising breakthrough has emerged in the form of in vitro three-dimensional (3D) cardiovascular models utilizing human pluripotent stem cells. These innovative models recreate the intricate 3D structure of the human heart and vessels within a controlled environment. This advancement is pivotal as it addresses the existing gaps in cardiovascular research, allowing scientists to study different stages of cardiovascular diseases and specific drug responses using human-origin models. In this review, we first outline various approaches employed to generate these models. We then comprehensively discuss their applications in studying cardiovascular diseases by providing insights into molecular and cellular changes associated with cardiovascular conditions. Moreover, we highlight the potential of these 3D models serving as a platform for drug testing to assess drug efficacy and safety. Despite their immense potential, challenges persist, particularly in maintaining the complex structure of 3D heart and vessel models and ensuring their function is comparable to real organs. However, overcoming these challenges could revolutionize cardiovascular research. It has the potential to offer comprehensive mechanistic insights into human-specific disease processes, ultimately expediting the development of personalized therapies.

Background: This study aimed to explore the current knowledge level of breast cancer among rural women in Southwest China and analyze the influencing factors of breast cancer cognition. Methods: From May to November 2022, 1468 rural women were invited to participate in this study. Demographic information and the Chinese version of the Breast Cancer Awareness Measure (C-BCAM) were collected through one-on-one investigations. The data were analyzed using descriptive statistics, chi-square tests, and multiple regression analysis in SPSS 26.0. Results: The study included a total of 1468 rural women with a median age of 54.0 (IQR, 47.0, 60.0).The average score of breast cancer in the study population was 73.0 (IQR, 66.0, 82.0). Among women in Southwest China, the awareness rates of knowledge on breast cancer symptoms, barriers to seeking medical help, and risk factors were 68.8%, 98.4%, and 62.1%, respectively. The awareness rate was found to increase with higher education levels (P<0.001) and decrease with increasing age (P<0.001). Multivariate logistic regression analysis identified three variables that might influence breast cancer awareness: education level, contraceptive measures, and history of breast disease (all P<0.05). Specifically, history of breast disease (Odds ratio (OR) = 1.907, 95% CI = 1.128 ~ 3.223), middle school education (OR = 2.155, 95% CI = 1.585 ~ 2.928), and junior college education and above (OR = 5.536, 95% CI = 1.898 ~ 16.148) were positive factors for women's breast cancer awareness. Conversely, the use of intrauterine devices (OR = 0.523, 95% CI = 0.384 ~ 0.712) was found to be a negative factor for women's breast cancer awareness. Conclusion: This study highlights the insufficient awareness of breast cancer among women in rural area of Southwest China. It emphasizes the necessity of health education to improve female breast cancer awareness.
